Tony Bianchi was in conversation about his first novel in English, Bumping, with Alcemi editor Gwen Davies at the Hay Festival Welsh tent on Saturday 29 May. Gwen and Tony worked together in the Literature Department of the Arts Council of Wales in the early Nineties, and both are literary translators from Welsh to English.

Llwyd Owen's Cardiff novel lapped up by young Cardiff men


Young men dominated the audience at the launch on 13 May at the capital's Gwdihw bar of Llwyd's first novel in English, Faith, Hope and Love. Humour, teasing and a great Cardiff accent from the author were the night's highlights - plus free badges and lots of books sold.

Fflur Dafydd: Oxfam Hay Emerging Writer of the Year, Iowa writer-in-residence, plus many other accolades!


Following a successful whistlestop tour to celebrate her May Oxfam Hay award, Fflur spent the first six weeks of autumn at the highly prestigious Iowa International Writing Program. Fflur was selected by the British Council as the UK/Welsh participant, and will be on tour again during October to promote Twenty Thousand Saints.

Edinburgh Fringe, August 09!

As part of the Edinburgh City of Literature Events and the Edinburgh Fringe, Alan read from his new novel for the Blackwell Writers at the Fringe programme. These events include authors such as Michel Faber, Anne Donovan and Margaret Elphinstone.

Penny was a Hawthornden Fellow, in residence at the Hawthorndon International Retreat for Writers, Lasswade, Edinburgh, Scotland, where she was working on her third novel.



Gee Williams was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year

on 15 June at at a Gala dinner at the St David's Hotel, Cardiff Bay.

Her FANTASTIC book was her second collection of short fiction, Blood Etc, published by Parthian in 2008. If you want a celebration of different voices, sensual detail, real characters and an insight into the neglected corner of north-east Wales, look no further.
