Bamboo Grove launch sells out!

Romy Wood's Bamboo Grove sold out at its Wales Millennium Centre launch
attended by around 200 people including children and excluding guitars, juice bottles, and beautiful roses. Friends, family, colleagues, peers and members of The Manic Depression Fellowship Wales were represented in the crowd. The large space was extended beyond the main area of the Glanfa Foyer to incorporate seating in the nearby cafe. Portmeirion bookshop ran out of books as numbers approached one hundred copies sold. Thanks to Sara from Academi for organisation and passing round the mike during the excellent Q and A session following Romy's heartfelt talk and reading. The event was framed by Romy's daughter Megan and friends on guitar and vocals. Apart from Romy's son unfortunately criticising the cover, and the editor's misjudged attempt to kiss Romy's other, infant son as he presented her with flowers, all went well. The night was worth it alone to hear Romy's perceptive description of the way in which writing can be for bipolar authors such as herself [and possibly many others without a diagnosis] an opportunity to neglect health and family; she regards such yielding to temptation as a "self-indulgence" which she tries her very best to resist. Book-buyers enjoyed a free drinks promotion at the pricey Bar One.
